Getting Started: Interlibrary Loans

A quick guide to creating an account, locating materials, checking out materials, returning materials, reserving materials, and fines/fees.

If there is a book that is not in the Helen Hall Library's collection, patrons do have the option to request an Inter-Library Loan.

An Inter-Library Loan (or ILL), is a book that Helen Hall Library staff members request from another library to be sent here for a patron to checkout.

The ILL guidelines are as follows:

  • Books that have been published for a year or more are the only items available for ILL. All other requests for items will be filled out as a request for purchase.
  • ILL's have a set due date and are not eligible for renewals.
  • ILL's will be given to the patron with two sets of papers that are attached to the book. These papers must be returned with the book for the ILL to be sent back to its proper library.
  • ILL's accrue $1.00 a day when late.

Inter-Library Loans are kept apart from the holds shelf where the Helen Hall Library's items are kept. Instead, they are placed behind the circulation desk. To collect your Inter-Library Loan (ILL), walk up to the front circulation desk, hand the clerk your library card, and inform them you have an available ILL.
