A Quiet Place II (2020)

Dir. John Krasinski (trailer)

A Quiet Place Part II is a vast improvement over the original film, which relied heavily on the gimmick of a nearly silent film that forced audiences to listen closely to the ambient sounds of the film. This film picks up where the first film left off and is immediately more thrilling than it's predecessor. With all of the original cast returning, and even some new faces, everyone gives incredible performances, especially Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Millicent Simmonds.

This sequel gives more back story to the world that these movies take place in and gives more depth to the characters. While the first movie took place after the monsters had already attacked, the sequel gives a glimpse into what happened on the day the monster attacked and how it changed the world for the characters. Krasinski creates a thrilling short disaster film within the larger film itself that begins with the whole town enjoying a softball game before fleeing for their lives as the monsters attack for the first time.

Once the film picks back up with the Abbott family as they make their way to safety after discovering a possible nearby camp, they quickly encounter danger but are reluctantly taken in by a former family friend (Murphy) who has created a space within an underground tunnel system. Soon, the family is separated as they each have to go on their own quests to survive.

I greatly enjoyed this film, even more so than the original. Allowing the film to become more action packed and letting the characters venture outside of their own bubbles gives the film momentum to keep moving forward in the world of these characters. I highly recommend this film for fans of the first movie and fans of action/adventure films.

Rating: ★★★☆☆
