Freaky is a new breed of horror movie that has become popular, tying millennial humor with unique thrills. Made from the same producers as Happy Death Day, Freaky brings a refreshing perspective to the genre. Starring Vince Vaughn and Blockers star Kathryn Newton, these two use their comedic skills and chemistry to create a hilarious, high-school drama filled horror film.
The film begins the way many of these films do, with a group of teens recounting local urban legends before immediately being stalked and killed by that same urban legend. The killer turns out to be Vince Vaughn, who is after a knife that allows him to transfer to another body. When Millie (Newton)'s mom forgets to pick her up after school, she is attacked by the killer and awakes the next day to discover she has switched bodies and must now convince her friends that the killer is in her body.
As the title of the film Freaky suggests, this movie shares similarities with the film Freaky Friday, in which a mother and daughter switch bodies and must try to switch back. This film is a lot more fun, due to its great performances and gratuitous use of guts and gore.
I highly recommend this film to fans of horror comedies, especially some of the new horror to come out in recent years.
