Based on a novel by acclaimed author Nick Hornby, Juliet, Naked is a fun little indie film that brings together a dream cast, including Ethan Hawke, Rose Byrne, and Chris O'Dowd. Set in a small seaside town, Annie runs the local museum and lives with her long-term boyfriend Duncan, a film professor who also runs a fan blog dedicated to the mysterious musician Tucker Crowe (Hawke).
After Annie and Duncan's relationship falls apart, Annie secretly begins e-mailing with Tucker and discovers what he has been up to in the years after quitting music. When Tucker comes to visit one of his children in London, he and Annie meet up, creating some excitement and drama in Annie's life. Rose Byrne and Ethan Hawke give great performances that are both heartfelt and funny and make the movie memorable, elevating it beyond a simple indie rom-com. While the film's plot isn't anything new, the modern spin on the long distance romance that revolves around the internet and Crowe's former rockstar career creates a refreshing and enjoyable narrative.
I recommend this film to anyone who likes indie rom-coms, especially those are provide a more realistic/grown-up perspective. Fans of Nick Hornby's previous work will definitely enjoy this as well.
