The sixth installment in the Mission Impossible series, Fallout, is by far the biggest spectacle of the now 25 year long franchise. While the first three films are vastly different from the second half of the series, Fallout is essentially the culmination of two decades worth of storylines and technological innovation. The anchor of the series is Tom Cruise, who also produces and is heavily involved in the making of each film.
As the series has progressed, the set pieces and stunts, usually performed by Cruise himself, have become bigger and more unbelievable. M:I Ghost Protocol featured Cruise scaling the side of the of the world's tallest building, while Rogue Nation and Fallout included skydiving, helicopter dogfights (piloted by Cruise), and Henry Cavill throwing people through walls, among other things. It is hard to imagine how the seventh and eighth installments will top the previous two.
Fallout continues the storyline started in Rogue Nation that finds Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his ragtag group of IMF co-horts trying to take down a secret syndicate headed by criminal Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). While the first four films seemed to have little-to-no connections with each other, aside from the character of Ethan Hunt, it seems that the series has chosen to change course and keep the recent films within the same storyline and allow actors to return and reprise characters.
The Mission: Impossible series is unique in that you can jump into the series at anytime, with any film, and easily pick up on the plot and character developments without too much trouble. Fans of action films that use practical effects that use minimal CGI will love this film and series as a whole.
