National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is one of the funniest and most accurate holiday movies ever. Rather than trying to force Christmas cheer onto the audience, the movie is realistic with how stressful it can be to spend time with your family, while also being hilariously accurate. Everyone can relate to the Griswold family in some way or another and that's what makes the movie so enjoyable!
Played by Chevy Chase, Clark Griswold is an everyman who just wants his Christmas holiday to be perfect, but of course, nothing goes right. The film immediately begins with disaster - while heading to a Christmas tree farm to find the perfect tree, Clark realizes he has forgotten his chainsaw after dragging his family out into the snow. Soon, family begins to arrive to stay at the Griswold residence and Clark still has decorating to do, which of course doesn't go as planned either and causes him to staple himself to the roof.
While the Griswold's are in full Christmas mode, they also have to deal with grouchy neighbors and cheap bosses. The Griswold's uptight neighbors Margo (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Todd are consistently annoyed by Clark's holiday antics and often get in shouting matches in the driveway. Their house is even raided by the FBI when Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) kidnaps Clark's boss for not paying the yearly Christmas bonus that Clark had been expecting.
While humorous, Christmas Vacation is the perfect film to get you into the holiday spirit, from 25,000 Christmas lights to Christmas trees filled with squirrels, this movie will become an instant classic in your home, if it isn't already!
