dir. Alfred Hitchcock (trailer)
The Birds is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most infamous films, using seemingly safe animals that then turn against the people of a small seaside town, to everyone's horror. Hitchcock masterfully creates mass hysteria in a small community, forcing people of different opinions to work together to fight off a swarm of dangerous birds. This film has many early film tropes now found in most modern horror movies, like Bird Box and Crawl, and set the standard of the time with visual effects.
The films revolves around Melanie and Mitch, two people who meet accidentally in a pet store. After Mitch says he is looking for lovebirds for his little sister, Melanie decides to purchase them and drive them up to Mitch's house along the coast. Once Melanie arrives, strange things begin to happen involving birds around the town. In addition to the birds, Melanie must also battle against Mitch's mother and a former girlfriend, while falling for him.
While the film was revolutionary during it's time, it now comes across as very dated and often times laughable. It's still a fun watch and a must see for fans of Alfred Hitchcock and classic films. The film's lead actors Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor give great, charismatic performances that keeps the film worth watching.
