Dir. Christopher Nolan (trailer)

   "Are you watching closely?"

The Prestige is one of director Christopher Nolan's most underrated films, due to it being made in between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but is easily one of his best. Nolan once again creates a film full of time-jumps and illusions that requires the audience to give its full attention to the plot, all without being too flashy as he is best known for in other films, like Inception.

The film focuses on two rival magicians, played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, in late 1800s London and follows them as they spend their careers constantly trying to one-up each other to complete the perfect magic trick. When Alfred Borden (Bale) perfects the Transported Man trick, allowing him to seemingly transport across the stage instantaneously, Angier (Jackman) becomes obsessed with how Borden has pulled it off. This story unfolds through the personal journals of the two magicians, as each read the other one's, as they fight to solve the true mystery of what led them to their current circumstances.

The world building created by Nolan is incredible, you instantly feel like you've been transported to the grimy, bustling streets of London. Featuring a wonderful performance from David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, this movie will surely pull you into it and leave you wanting to watch it over and over again for all of the clues you missed initially.
