About Us

The mission of Volunteer Services is to invest in our community by providing engaging and enriching experiences that strengthen the bond between Helen Hall Library and its community.

Thank you for your interest in joining the Volunteer Services program at Helen Hall Library.  As a library, we deeply appreciate the work and commitment of our volunteer team.  Volunteers are vital in helping us keep the library clean, organized, and equipped to provide excellent services and successful programs to our community.   

Ways You Can Serve

We are always open to creating new opportunities for those seeking to connect with Helen Hall Library in unique ways. From shelving books to helping develop programs and events, we are confident you will find Helen Hall Library a highly rewarding place to serve.

Currently, volunteer opporunities fall into three main categories: Content Creation, Outreach Efforts, and Operational Support.

Content Creation includes, but is not limited to:

  • Writing Book Reviews
  • Creating Themed Reading Lists
  • Creating Shelf Talkers and posters to highlight reviews and reading lists
  • Designing Social Media content for Volunteer Services
  • Capturing video and photos of library events
  • Creating and hosting new special presentations or programs

Outreach Efforts include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with library programs in house (set up, staffing, clean up)
  • Assist with community outreach programs around the city
  • Create and staff new outreach programs

Operational Support makes up the majority of our volunteer tasks.  It includes, but is not limited to:

  • Cleaning and Dusting Book Shelves
  • Sanitizing Computer and Checkout Stations
  • Straightening Shelves
  • Shelving 
  • Working inventory lists
  • Assisting with craft/program preparations
  • Stamping and marking discard materials

Requirements for Volunteering

In order to volunteer with Helen Hall Library, the following criteria must be met:

  • Must be age 12 or older
  • A completed application including emergency contact
    • Volunteers age 12-17 must also have guardian consent (included in Teen Application)
  • Completed and cleared background check (age 18+ only)
    • A link will be emailed to adult applicants upon review and approval of your application by the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Attend New Volunteer Orientation

Please Note: Orientation is by invitation only and is held the first Wednesday of every month.  Applications will be accepted until the 25th of each month for the subsequent orientation.  Applications received after the 25th of the month will be considered for the following subsequent orientation. (i.e. if you apply by May 25th, you'll be invited to the June Orientation.  If you apply May 27th, you'll be invited to the July Orientation)

Group Volunteering

Interested in having a school class, scout troop, or other organization volunteer as a group?

Email Library Administration at libraryadmin@leaguecitytx.gov, and we can discuss setting up a day, time, and activity that would work best for your volunteer group.
